Typhoon “Pepeng” (international codename: Parma) accelerated to almost twice its speed at 24 kilometers per hour around noon Saturday but was moving west-northwest toward Cagayan. It was previously reported to be moving at 17 kilometers per hour.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said it expected “Pepeng” to make landfall in Cagayan at around 3:00 p.m. Saturday.

In an update at noon Saturday, Pagasa said Pepeng was located 60 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City or 100 kilometers southeast of Aparri, Cagayan. It was still packing maximum winds of 175 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of 210 kilometers per hour.

Public storm Signal No. 3 is up over Batanes, Cagayan, Babuyan and Calayan group of islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Mountain Province, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga and Isabela.

Storm Signal No. 2 is up over the rest of Isabela, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet and La Union.
Storm Signal No. 1 is hoisted over Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan.
